What size dumpster is rented the most?

The most popular dumpster size to rent is 20 yards. This size is versatile and can be used for a variety of projects, including home renovations, construction, and cleanouts.

Why 20-yard dumpsters are popular

  • Size A 20-yard dumpster is about 22 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 feet tall. This size is manageable and can fit in most driveways.
  • Capacity A 20 yard dumpster can hold around 120 standard trash bags or the amount of trash from about eight pickup trucks.

Other dumpster sizes

  • 10-yard dumpster A good size for landscaping projects that produce a small amount of debris

15-yard dumpster

25-yard dumpster

A good size for large-scale remodeling projects, commercial remodels, and whole-home cleanouts

40-yard dumpster

A good size for major construction projects, commercial renovations, and infrastructure upgrades

How do I figure out what size dumpster I need?

To determine what size dumpster you need, you can calculate the volume of waste you’ll need to dispose of. The volume of a dumpster is measured in cubic yards.

How to calculate the volume of waste

  1. Measure the length, width, and height of the waste in feet
  2. Multiply the three measurements together
  3. Divide the result by 27 to get the volume in cubic yards

How to choose the right dumpster size

  • Small to medium projects: A 10–to 20-yard dumpster is usually enough for small to medium home improvement projects or construction jobs.

Large projects: A 30–40 yard dumpster is usually needed for larger projects like home cleanouts, remodels, or commercial renovations. Heavy materials: A 10–20 yard dumpster is usually enough for heavy materials like asphalt or slate shingles. Large home cleanouts: A 15–20 yard dumpster is usually enough for large home cleanouts. Home renovation projects: A 15 yard dumpster is usually enough for most home renovation projects.

  •

You can also consider the type of materials you’ll be disposing of. For example, you might need a larger dumpster if you’re getting rid of bulky furniture, appliances, rugs, or other oversized items.
